Teachers
Since its beginnings, the ELSE Consortium has given priority to teacher training and development and has organized seminars, lectures and workshops on the teaching and learning of Spanish as a second and foreign language. Additionally, it has supported initiatives for postgraduate training and research development.
The consortium’s interest in teacher training focuses especially on mastery of the language and on integration of the cultural components which are essential in the teaching of Spanish and in the production of teaching materials and tools supporting this methodology.
There are two kinds of teaching training programs:
1. For under-graduate and postgraduate students: teacher training programs, graduate programs of study (Specializations, Master and Doctoral programs). In order to register for these programs, a university degree granted by a recognized institution in the field of Spanish and related fields (Applied Linguistics, Education, etc.) is required. CELU at Advanced level certification is also required.
[You can get further information about the requirements and details about each program in the websites of the universities which are members of the Consortium]
2. Courses for teaching staff in the universities which are members of the Consortium and for Brazilian teachers of Spanish: these courses impart training about the characteristics of the CELU exam and on preparing candidates for the CELU exam. Among the courses offered are Language Acquisition, Methodology and Cultural and Language Diversity.
More specific training programs are also available, among others: Pedagogical Grammar, Academic Writing, Spanish for Specific Purposes, Multimedia Learning and Learning through Poetry. There is also a wide range of courses in related areas such as Argentine and Latin-American History and Literature, Music, Cinema and Economics.
These courses are offered by the postgraduate departments of the universities participating in the Consortium. Certificates are issued.
